DocuSign’s vision is to modernise the Systems of Agreement of companies around the world, automating and connecting everything that happens before, during and after each document is processed through the DocuSign platform.

Our vision is to accelerate the way technologies and processes are used to prepare, sign, execute and manage agreements. In this blog series, we’re contextualising each of the four stages of a fully digital System of Agreement platform.

We previously shared how you can now prepare documents with a high degree of automation before getting them signed quickly and securely. We then discussed how you can act on agreement terms after signing, such as updating records or triggering actions in other systems. Last but not certainly not least is the fourth stage: Manage.

Businesses will ultimately have a single unified System of Agreement platform.

With all the stages of the agreement process finalised, from inception to execution, the completed agreement must be stored and managed. The 20th century made a terrific contribution to this effort: in virtually all enterprises, this phase of the lifecycle truly has become digital.

Unfortunately, it has not become smart. That is, when an agreement is filed, it is too often forgotten—out of sight, out of mind. This means missed opportunities for changes in pricing at renewals, which can lead to revenue leakage; it can also mean missed entitlements, thereby wasting vigorously negotiated terms and conditions. Truth be told, when it comes to the Manage phase of their Systems of Agreement, most companies have no system at all.

Manage agreements with flexible options

Opportunities linked to archived documents are all too often lost, between price changes in renewals and activation of negotiated clauses. It can be difficult to find old contracts buried deep in filing cabinets or misfiled on servers, and it is not always possible to rescue them to take immediate action.

This is where DocuSign features such as secure retention, retrieval and reporting, as well as analysis of contract content and specialised forms of document maintenance, come in. Our System of Agreement turns management actions into simpler, more accessible and more functional experiences.

Examples of how to manage agreements digitally

These activities are about managing agreements after they are completed. For example:

  • Retain agreements securely in a centralised place, or maintain centralised access to agreements that reside across different repositories.
  • Retrieve agreements based on a variety of criteria, including AI-driven concept search.
  • Report on agreement completion, turnaround time, and various other trends.
  • Reuse new agreements as templates for future agreements.

Symptoms of a legacy System of Agreement include slow, expensive processes due to a lack of automation, disconnected steps that require customers or employees to rekey information you already have, and an inability to monitor or audit for compliance.

There is a better way: a modern System of Agreement. Discover the whats, whys, and hows by reading the white paper.
