Dan Springer is the CEO of DocuSign

Today I had the honour of representing DocuSign at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, and am pleased to share exciting news from the trip.

Unveiled at the ‘Fighting for Forests’ session, I announced a new initiative showcasing our continued commitment to the environment: DocuSign for Forests. What’s more, I got to do so alongside Dr. Jane Goodall (yes, that Jane Goodall) and several other sustainability luminaries.

Protecting the Earth's lungs

DocuSign for Forests is our commitment to helping protect and preserve the world’s forests. They serve as the Earth’s lungs, cleaning the air and providing us with the oxygen we need to breathe. And given that DocuSign is inherently forest-friendly, we have a unique role to play. Our initiative provides major financial commitments to supporting non-profits that are doing critical work to protect the world’s forests.

The first grant is to the Jane Goodall Legacy Foundation—a new non-profit that Dr. Goodall founded to fund the fight to protect our planet’s resources for years to come. This commitment includes $500,000 from the DocuSign IMPACT Foundation—and I am matching that contribution in a personal capacity to make the total $1 million.

Additionally, DocuSign has earmarked another $500,000 for environmental sustainability organizations this year alone, and we’ll continue to donate via the DocuSign IMPACT Foundation for years to come.

Involving our customers and prospects

A second component of DocuSign for Forests involves our customers and prospects. We are asking them all to improve their environmental and paper-use practices by taking a pledge (at docusign.co.uk/forests) and move more of their legacy processes onto DocuSign. In return, we will donate up to 1% of the expanded revenue that we generate to forest-protection causes.

In addition to our monetary contributions, we have also added an environmental impact calculator into our core eSignature product. This lets senders and signers see how they—and DocuSign—are reducing waste and positively impacting the environment.

DocuSign for Forests is something we are excited to launch and something I am incredibly proud to be a part of. It reflects just how naturally forest-friendly we are both as a product and as a company – just by using DocuSign, our customers are already helping to save hundreds if not thousands of trees a day.
