HR Technology Trends 2020: Streamlining HR

The HR Trends Report 2020 was conducted by DocuSign, surveying over 800 key decision-makers and influencers in HR functions. The survey asks questions about the technology today’s HR teams currently use and predictions around what might change in the future. One of the most striking findings from the latest report is that HR professionals are struggling to dedicate time to their most important work - finding and building talent.

Building a system of HR tools will eventually allow them to manage those tasks efficiently. In this article, we’ll take a look at the results of the survey and suggest the tools that will help HR teams move forward. The foundation of any organisation is its human resources. For any business to succeed and grow, it has to put effort into optimising the talent from existing employees and finding the right new hires to complement that team.

Hiring and employee benefits

Respondents to the survey identified hiring new members of staff as the most important aspect of their role. Hiring is both the most widely performed activity and most likely to be a HR professionals primary job function. Employee benefits, payroll and compensation followed.

HR administration tasks

Although hiring and employee benefits were cited as the most important functions of their role, the survey highlighted that HR professionals are spending more time on other activities. On a weekly basis, HR professionals are spending time on health & safety, payroll, operations and other tasks. Of the nine activities listed in our survey, hiring comes eighth in terms of the activities that respondents are performing in a given week.

Manual work processes block HR’s workflow

There is a discrepancy between the tasks that HR teams want to do and the tasks that HR teams are actually performing. HR teams aren’t able to devote the time and resources to the tasks that they see as a priority. In addition, 75% of respondents still manage all or most of their agreements on paper rather than digitally. HR teams that continue to avoid the digitisation of paperwork processes will run into time management issues repeatedly. Without the right HR tools in place, misallocated and under-utilised resources will introduce more of the same problems. One of the biggest obstacles in HR workflows is repetitive document generation for agreements such as job offers and termination letters. Without the right technology, it’s trickier to fill open positions. It’s also harder to create a positive employee experience without smooth integrations and automation.

Using digital tools to create a better experience

The good news is that all of these problems can be solved with a fully digital system of agreement. It will eliminate the waste, error and delay that are part of current workflows, leaving HR teams free to focus on priorities. Digital transformation will increase productivity, reduce cost and give HR teams the flexibility to invest their time in activities that create new value for the organisation.
