The “We Are DocuSign” blog series places the spotlight on employees from a variety of departments and provides a peek into what it’s like to work at DocuSign. This week, we sat down with Chris, Vice President of Revenue Operations.
Q: What do you do at DocuSign?
My Revenue Operations team helps the sales team get their quotes out the door and their orders processed. We own the quoting and bookings processes.
Q: What do your friends and family think you do?
My friends and family don’t really know that much about what I do — except that I’m extremely busy at least four times per year. I just tell them I work on the WENUS all day — like Chandler on “Friends.”
Q: What is the best thing about working at DocuSign?
My favourite thing is the team I work with. We have a lot of smart people — which makes it easier to deal with the challenges we run across. When you’re working with great people cross-functionally and you’re all moving in the same direction, it makes it much easier to reach your common goals.
Q: How is that team different than other teams at Docusign? Is there anything special about your team’s dynamic?
We work with sales, sales ops, legal, revenue accounting, collections, commissions, FP&A, product management, pricing strategy, and enterprise applications. We have a very good overall view of what most other teams in the company are responsible for, what they are currently working on, and how that relates to us in the big picture regarding company goals. That’s probably what sets us apart.
Q: What is the best advice you can give to somebody starting a new job in your department at DocuSign?
Work hard and be available. You need excellent communication skills to be successful on my team. Ask as many questions as possible. Get to know as many people as possible. Familiarise yourself with all the groups I mentioned.
Q: What traits do you most admire in your colleagues at DocuSign?
I admire my colleagues’ intelligence and their desire to work hard to make this company successful. Everybody rolls their sleeves up and everybody gets involved, but they also have a good sense of humor. Last week is a perfect example: We were sitting around the table, and it was tense — but people were still joking around. Everybody takes the job really seriously — but not themselves.
Q: What traits do you think your DocuSign colleagues most admire in you?
We’re usually in a high pressure, fast moving kind of environment, so I try to keep my conversations as fact based and productive as possible.
Q: What is something most of your colleagues at DocuSign don’t know about you?
I have a twin sister, and I’m from Minnesota.
Q: What is your favourite snack from the DocuSign kitchen?
Definitely not the hard boiled eggs…..or the avocado.
Q: Where is your favourite place to work or have a meeting at DocuSign and why?
The conference room on the 10th floor because of the view.
Q: What is the best project you’ve ever worked on at DocuSign and why?
The CPQ (Configure, Price, Quote) project that we just rolled out in August. It’s enabling us to have tighter controls over deals we have going out and preparing us for a time when we may go public.
Q: If you were not working at DocuSign and could do anything in the world, what would you be doing/do next?
I’d be a ninja.
Q: What is the secret for you to happiness?
Have fun every day. If you can’t keep things as light as possible at work, then you’re going to be miserable. You spend as much time with your co-workers as you do with your family and your other friends, so you might as well enjoy yourself as much as you can.
