By Christine Bayley Wortley – Owner of Kauai Nut Roasters

Hawaii holds a place in people’s minds as a kick-back-and-relax island paradise. But as an entrepreneur, it’s something else entirely for me. I’M BUSY! In 2004, I started a nut roasting business here on Kauai.  What began as a tiny, farmer’s-market-selling-one-woman-show, has grown into two retail shops on opposite sides of the island, nine full-time employees, and our own warehouse opening this summer.  Oh, and did I mention that I’m also a full-time mother of three boys?  Yeah, it’s nuts.

At Kauai Nut Roasters we do just about everything a business can do—from selecting the nuts, sugars & spices from local farmers and manufacturers, to fire-roasting and seasoning the nuts in our local kitchen, to packaging and distributing them to small stores and large grocery chains throughout all of Hawaii.  Our next target is the mainland, so look out.

When I was just starting out, everything was hard and disorganized. I needed to be everywhere all at once. I drove around the island to meet vendors, got all the deals done, took care of all of the paperwork and managed production. Scaling myself was my biggest problem. Our growth required that I make the right hires at the right time and simplify processes with technology.

DocuSign is a great tool for the way I run my business. I simply cannot stop everything I’m doing, drive 1.5 hours to sign a lease agreement for our new warehouse, and then drive 1.5 hours back. That blows my whole day apart and slows the business’s momentum. DocuSign’s mobile app for Android allows me to get agreements done wherever I am: my production plant, my retail stores or from my car driving between them. It syncs with my desktop account, too.  Epic time-saver. It’s kind of crazy how simple DocuSign has made this.

Using DocuSign also means we’re doing something that’s planet-friendly.  And that’s something I do really care about. Well, that and having a little time left over to enjoy the amazing surf.

If you’re ever in the Hanalei or Poipu area, check out one of our stores and have some samples.   You’ll love our nuts! (And you can consider that a signed guarantee.)

Mahalo & Aloha!
